A Waltz at Midnight by Crista McHugh

A Waltz at Midnight by Crista McHugh
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Short and sweet. A Waltz At Midnight was a fun little Cinderella-ish HR treat. That starts off with a single unromantic letter that later becomes a correspondences between two people in a hard spot in their lives as their letters reveal feelings and emotions they haven't been able to express and through these letter love blossoms between the two.

There's something very romantic about penned down letters, almost like those notes you would send your bf/gf in high school. Most of the story takes place between the letters sent between Susanna a young woman once a southern bella turned housemaid for her aunt's boarding house after the Civil War has ravaged her home and left her bother with the lost of a limb. Susanna has been working not only for the roof over her head but to help her brother has he studies for his bar exam. When one of the boarders and friend gets a unromantic letter, it's up to Susanna to…

It is easy to get a thousand prescriptions but hard to get one single remedy. -Chinese Proverb

What drew me to Everneath was the Hades and Persephone myth that was incorporated into the story. Although the true gem of the story was finding one's feet after you feel your world has been destroyed.
Nikki feels just like that, and ends up turning to the wrong person Cole. Next things she knows she’s been stuck into an underworld where immortals Feed on the emotions of those who have hit wrong bottom like Nikki. Nikki though finds a way to get back to the surface and finally make her peace with her family and love ones before she’s suck back into the underworld. Only she can’t. Not when the feelings she thought were torn from her come back to her, and not when the love of her life- Jack- comes back into her life and gives her the strength to fight back in returning to Everneath and Cole.

Brodi Ashton added a little flavor of …

Wicked as They Come by Delilah S. Dawson

Wicked as They Come by Delilah S. Dawson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Set between two worlds our Earth and Sang- a world where objects have a strong steampunk flavor with clockwork, mechanical animals, vampires and humans living side by side in a dangerous world where prejudice against those who are different and everything maybe out to get you- like the vampire bunnies!

An author has to play it just right to pull off the parallel world plot and Deliah S. Dawson does just that by giving the reader a rich world in Sang. From the cute little animals we see in our world like the fluffy bunny in Sang is a cute fluffy bunny that will bite you with their sharp little fangs and perhaps tear you from limb to limb. Creepy Right? Yet, alot of fun with some tongue and cheek humor about the animals, but perhaps a hidden message from the author of not everything is what it appears to be.

Tish Everett has finally broken away from a very toxic relationship, being a nurse and taking care of her …

A Little Night Magic by Lucy March
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Like a waffle, A Little Night Magic by Lucy March was a fun, fluffy and very much a delicious read.
Olivia Kiskey has worked at the waffle house restaurant since she’s been a teen with and been in love with the cook Tobias who hasn’t made a move in over four years and Olivia is tired of the same old same old and in need of a big change! She gets it when she meets a strange woman who says she has a special gift that may bring the change she wanted for good or bad.

Olivia is an easygoing character that may be a little blind to things in her life, from her three dear friends lives, and her feelings of Tobias. When Olivia’s magical gift, the ability to turn everyday objects into animal creatures (her mug coffer cup Gibson and paper crane Niles stole my heart) Olivia’s life is changed a 180 degrees when things start to go downhill. From one of her friend’s becoming a different and spiteful person and someone want…

The Gathering Storm by Robin Bridges
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Set in a time of Russia where the old, superstitions and folklore clash and give away to the new of science and new medicines. The Dark and Light court serve the tsar as old forces that were once banished arise anew, stronger with a young woman Katerina Alexandrovna, Duchess of Oldenburg deals with her dark ability that may end up saving all she knows and loves.

Robin Bridges could not have set this book at a better time, where old is giving into new ideas and thoughts, but the old ways are still very present with the workings of all that is paranormal that serve in the Russian Court some for the tsar others for their own gain. The political chess match is well played with Katherina stuck right in the middle.

Katherina dreams of being a doctor, with her father well known for his support of the medical field. Her dark gift makes her fear of every reaching her dream at times- the gift to bring the dead back to life.…

Wander Dust by Michelle Warren

Wander Dust by Michelle Warren
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wander Dust didn't read or feel like an indie with it's details to moving the story along, it never hinder or left major plot holes only unanswered questions for further books. There was wonderful character growth and plenty of action with an almost enchanting feel as Sera starts to uncover her powers and the past of her family... Sera has always felt isolated, her father is just "there" with no real emotional connection. Then on her 16th birthday she happens to meet a lady in black who makes her feel her mind is set ablaze, then almost like magic next day she's able to travel through time itself by holding on to a keepsake,a bracelet, that once belong to her mother... Michelle Warren created a society and school where young students learn to control their gifts. Sera meets others who share her ability along with protectors and seers who form teams to help one another. Being a wanderer- she forms a …

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by by Marissa Meyer

Cinder by Marissa Meyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Set in a world were androids and humans walk side by side in the city of New Beijing, a deadly plague looms over the city, with death just around the corner. A young mechanic- Cinder lives with her “wicked” stepmother, and being a cyborg is made more of a second-class citizen. But when her path crosses with Prince Kai and her sister falls ill to the plague, Cinder’s life and past start to intertwine with the future of those of the city and even the worlds.

Marissa Meyer creates a truly engrossing take on a this fairytale retelling with technology not being the great end’s all, with good and bad and the effects it has on the everyday person. She also created a the servant class that Cinder belongs to as androids and cyborgs- people who live as second class citizens because of their machine parts. It hurt to see but made the story much richer because of the fences and walls Cinder must climb over and breakthrough. Cinder is a bea…

Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Put through the gauntlet of emotions as I stumbled to the final pages, beaten, battered I could help but think to myself “how much I loved every second of this book.”

Jennifer Lynn Barnes does something I love for authors to do, use their creativity, branch out, and turn something old into something brand new. With Every Other Day Barnes goes out and does this and more, she gives us a strong girl in Kali D’Angelo as she struggles with what she becomes every other day, a hunter that kills that or those that are not meant to be, from hellhounds to zombies. With her at times great dry sense of humor, Kali wins me over by having a deep vulnerability of being scared of what she is and want to be accepted because of who she is. With this message clear, Kali has only 24 hours to save the life- her own- when she takes on a mark from another that is set to kill whom ever has it on their body.

Every Other Day starts off wi…
