Lord Ramsay's Return by Elisabeth Fairchild

Lord Ramsay's Return by Elisabeth Fairchild

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fairchild once again transports me into a time of beautiful with deep scars underneath.
Prudence Stanhope is suffering from pain in neck and back from the emotional turmoil she's under at her home of her cousin where she works as a governess. Hearing from a doctor of the "shampooing" (we say massage)treatment in Brighton to help her with her stress, she goes not expecting to meet a man who would change her lookout at life and perhaps fate.

Fate has taught a hard lesson to Lord Charles "Rash" Ramsey by a turn of the cards as his brother lost everything of the family's name. Now Charles is trying to remake his fortune by the riches he has brought back from India. His teaching he's learned from a far off land has made him see that perhaps Karma has something in store for him and meeting Pru brings them both to a crossroads that put a balm on their healing hearts.

To Kiss a Thief by Kate Moore

To Kiss a Thief by Kate Moore

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kate Moore has once again has swept me away with her solid storytelling. Not only does she create a vivid world without the norm of ton parties but a soft romantic road adventure that leaves you guessing who is truly telling the truth.

After a disappointing season, Margaret Somerley is happy to get away from it all and curl up with a good book. What she doesn't expect is to be kidnapped by a thief who takes her on an adventure with her heart at risk from being taken by the thief as well.

There's alot of mystery going on that Margaret along with the reader have to slowly piece together. With our thief Drew sealing government papers to be sold to the French, things don't seem to be as cut-and-dried as they appear with Drew going out of his way to keep Margaret safe and sound and even making sure this adventure doesn't tarnish her rep.
I really loved the characters. They didn't come across as bold heroes, but some…

An Improper Widow by Kate Moore

An Improper Widow by Kate Moore

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was truly at awed after finishing this amazing novel. While not a strong romance book per se it felt more of "still waters run deep" with deep emotions of all the characters with the scars they have carried from the past and having to finally heal them in the present.

Francis William Arden, fourth Marquess of Warne has fought his battles and has won the war. Now the scars are finally on the road to healing and sees that it's time to finally settled down and marry. Making his riches through Iron and machinery and his battles with his father nicknamed the Iron Lord by the ton. Warne finds himself in one last battle with a thief whom sees to know his past and a woman who is slowly stealing his heart.

Susannah Bowen has taken on the mantle of a widow, one that makes her an unpaid servant for her family and protection from a painful past. Her duty to protect her cousin may give her a way out or a whole new set of …

Christmas is the time of rejoicing, of healing and sometimes second chances. I was very happy to see Penguin releasing and re-releasing novels from the well know Regency Signet line. Nothing pleased me more then finding this gem by one of my favorite authors Elisabeth Fairchild, whose words are sometime poetic and characters are so heartfelt they bring tears to your eyes.

This book very much brought bucket of tears to my eyes as the story unfolds with Kirkland Fleming, Earl of Copeland trying to make this year's the best Christmas ever. With time running out and his heart growing weaker. He wants to be with those he loves one last time and bring them joy instead of sadness. Things don't go as plan as a snowstorm delays his family, expect a young mystifying woman Miss Belinda Walcott.

Belinda has a score to settle, …

Born to Scandal by Diane Gaston

Born to Scandal by Diane Gaston

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Governess at times was a truly thankless job with their quasi-invisible role in the household. This role is show with Born to Scandal a homage to one of the greatest governess love story of all time : Jane Eyre.

Gaston's books for me are at times hit and miss. Born to Scandal was differently a hit and my favorite by this author. She shows us the true trial a young woman would have falling in love with a peer of the realm with only love to truly conquer the way.

Anna Hill is suddenly without all she's known. Brought up to be a companion and help a bashful girl. Anna is left out in the cold when the Lord of the house tells her she has only so much time to pack her bags. When a position as a governess opens up, she sees no other opinion then to try.

Rumors abound around the half Irish lord- Lord Brentmore. With the somewhat recent death of his wife, Brent is at a crossroads, unknowning what to do with his now motherless chil…

Forbidden Jewel of India by Louise Allen

Forbidden Jewel of India by Louise Allen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Louise Allen has become an auto-buy author for me, her books always end up on my keeper shelf as she delivers a vast story filled with rich history in a small package.

Placing her reader in India in the late 1700's, Anusha Laurens the daughter of an India princess and English peer is in danger of the conflicts of the courts of Rajasthan. Anusha is stuck between worlds not knowing where she truly belongs after her father rejected her and her mother when his wife returned. She's even more conflicted when she meets her "escort" Major Nicholas Herriard whose job is to return her to her father safe and sound. Of course Nick doesn't count of the attraction he feels to the fiery princess and the danger that brings them closer and the test it does to his honor and heart.

Nick and Anusha start off on the wrong foot as Anusha feels no love lost for her father and Nick whose just doing his bidding. Nick …

Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor

Image
Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I truly fell hard for the world Lain Taylor built in The Daughter of Smoke and Bone, she continues somewhat in this vein in Days of Blood and Starlight with the effects the neverending war has on not just our main characters but on innocents in the crosshairs.

At times the book was pretty hard to read, so be sure to have a few tissues close at hand, we see Karou still coming to grips with the past and now the present with the hot betrayal of Akiva across her heart. Karou grows from the innocent art student to an harden warrior faced with trying to save her race. It pushes to the very brink and yet she still keeps on going, fighting, trying to live up and believe in what her mentor Brimstone believed in.

This is where I felt Taylor kinda lost me. I adored viewing the world from Karou's eyes and her emotions and also enjoyed the glimpses of Akiva and others. I just wish she didn't skip so much between POV…

Katana by Cole Gibsen

Katana by Cole Gibsen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I picked up "Katana" by Cole Gibsen I really had no expectations and didn't know what to expect. The flow of the writing and story really just caught me. This book was stuffed full action that would having you step into the middle of a Kill Bill scene. Throw in a young woman samurai reincarnated into a young teen of today and a dash of romance and you have a kick-ass story.

Rileigh Martin is a skater girl living day to day. Until one day she fends off three muggers in the mall parking lot without breaking a sweat.

Rileigh's never had a day of martial arts training.

Things get even weired when a voice starts giving out points in battle and dire warnings to be careful in her head. Then she meets Kim who seems to know what happening to her as more attacks are targeting Rileigh then something just random and are after everyone she knows and loves.

As I started to really get wrapped up in the story all these g…

An Infamous Marriage by Susanna Fraser

An Infamous Marriage by Susanna Fraser

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Susanna Fraser has yet to let me down when it comes to her very earthy regencies with their more character driven plot and characters that never come across as two dimensional sexual creatures that have more modern tastes then someone from that time and era.
Fraser hits the right note when it comes to the infidelity portrayed in this story. It's not an easy subject and not one to take lightly, but Fraser shows all angles of those in the marriage that are affected by the infidelity and the strength it takes for the healing to start over again.

Elizabeth finds herself at a difference crossroads with her husband dying and asking her for her word to marry his best friend Jack in order for her to be cared for. Jack on the other hand, while he loves his friend Giles, he doesn’t wish to marry at all and not to the mousy Elizabeth. Then he goes off to war.

Susanna builds up the growing romance between Elizabeth and Jack…

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Temporary Betrothal by Dorothy Mack

Temporary Betrothal by Dorothy Mack

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I always love to read some nice angst when dealing with a marriage of convenience, perhaps because some characters truly shine through the trial by fire and Hey, we get to read some nice humble pie being eaten.

The story center focus was mainly on Belinda Melville, whose life hasn't been a bed of roses, but neither did she have an uncaring family. When she's sent to spread her wings a little, she goes to spend some time with her selfish married cousin. There she meets a man, whose been in her dreams since he stole a kiss from her and brought light to a dreadful day. Sadly, Capitan Anthony Wainright does remember that day with only eyes for Belinda's married cousin, puts Belinda down when she makes it know she doesn't approve of the relationship he and her cousin are carrying on. When both put a wrong foot forward it's up to Belinda to save both their hides and enter into a marriage with a man who does…

Not Proper Enough by Carolyn Jewel

Not Proper Enough by Carolyn Jewel

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I adore Carolyn Jewel's style of writing, it at times can be very poetic and profound. Her writing style doesn't fail, but I didn't feel any attachment to the characters this time around.
The bitter history between The Marquess of Fenris and Lady Eugenia hides for Fenris a love that has run very deep from the moment he first laid eyes on Eugenia. But after making a total fool of himself with his top-lofty view, lost both Eugenia her husband Robert his best friend's friendship. Years have pass and the love for Eugenia is as strong as ever, and with a dream and a promise Fenris or Fox sets out to win Eugenia heart and prove himself a different man then he once was.
Eugenia has been a state of limbo since the death of her husband, and her hatred toward Fox a man who made it to all that she was not worthy of anyone as great as her beloved husband, only now she sees a different man in Fox one she can't …

A Dishonorable Proposal by Katherine Kingsley

A Dishonorable Proposal by Katherine Kingsley

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this Heyer like tale with hidden identities, meddling families, and one crazy villain, I was quickly wrapped up in Katherine Kingsley's A Dishonorable Proposal. While the back blurb was very misleading (even with one glaring typo in the hero's name) Harry The Duke of Paxton is a well traveled scholar, who finds great joy in his travels and learning all he can, what he can't stand is his greedy family members that won't give him any peace! Enough is enough and packing his bag goes off to unknown small estate to write, when he runs into a young idealist in Miss Annabelle Hatfield.

Annabelle stands up to those who would knock down the weak, risking her neck in order to save anything or anyone from danger. When she learns of a recluse scholar, she jumps at the chance to meet him in order to perhaps border her mind, and break out of the box females at the time are put into.

Things become very compl…

The Duke's Dilemma by Nadine Miller

The Duke's Dilemma by Nadine Miller

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nadine Miller pens down a fun little trad with a high in the instep duke and how he gets his comeuppance from a plain firebrand.

The story isn't hardly new, but it was very fun, with our hero Jared, Duke of Montford who happen to turn 30 sees it as his duty and a promise to get marry have his heir and go on his merry way. Jared is a snob. He knows he's a pretty big fish to land and has his aunts throw a party in order for him to pick a fluffy bride and be done with it. Until he comes face to face with our heroine Miss Emily Haliburton, who speaks her mind even when she doesn't know who the duke truly is, it's a refreshing change from everyone bowing at his feet. It takes awhile for Jared to finally see the light, and it's all that much sweeter when he does.

Emily is the type of character I adore, she's smart, and speaks her mind, while being out of the norm. Even with some events that the d…
